Skilled Worker Visa — Vocational Training
Fachkräfteeinwanderung (Fachkräfte mit Berufsausbildung) · §18a Aufenthaltsgesetz
What this visa is
A work visa for people with a recognised vocational qualification and a concrete job offer in Germany. This is the primary route for trade professionals — electricians, nurses, mechanics, construction workers, logistics specialists and hundreds of other occupations covered by Germany's vocational training system. No university degree required.
Who it is for
- ✓Those with a completed vocational qualification of at least 2 years, recognised in Germany (if you are unsure whether yours qualifies, we will help you confirm or get the recognition done)
- ✓Those with a concrete job offer in a qualified position matched to their vocational field
- ✓German language skills are generally required — B1–B2 for regulated professions such as healthcare; for non-regulated professions, the employer determines the language level required
- ✓Applicants over 45 must earn a minimum gross annual salary of €55,770 (2026) or demonstrate adequate pension provision
Key facts
- →No fixed minimum salary for applicants under 45 — salary must be comparable to what German employees earn in the same role
- →Since the 2023 reform, employment does not need to be directly related to your qualification in all cases — broadening the options available to you
- →Settlement permit (permanent residency) possible after 3 years
- →For regulated professions such as healthcare, a professional licence to practise must be obtained before the visa can be issued
- →Federal Employment Agency approval is generally required as part of the visa process
