What this visa is
A visa that allows non-EU nationals to come to Germany specifically to search for an Ausbildung (apprenticeship) place — before they have secured one. With over 150,000 unfilled Ausbildung positions every year, companies are actively looking for international candidates.
Who it is for
- ✓Those under 35 years of age with a school-leaving certificate that gives access to higher education, or a qualification from a German school abroad
- ✓German language skills at B1 level are required
- ✓Applicants must demonstrate financial self-sufficiency of at least €1,091 per month (2026), provable via a blocked account or declaration of commitment

- →Valid for up to 9 months to search for and secure an apprenticeship place
- →Once a training contract is signed, the visa can be converted to an Apprenticeship Visa (§16a) without leaving Germany
- →Permits part-time work of up to 20 hours per week while searching
