The German Student Visa is for non-EU nationals who have been admitted to a state-recognised university or higher education institution in Germany. With hundreds of degree programmes taught in English and tuition fees that are free or minimal at public universities, Germany is one of the most accessible and affordable study destinations in the world.
You typically pay only a small semester contribution of €150–€350, which usually includes a public transport pass for the region.
Who it is for
- ✓Those who have received an official admission letter from a German state-recognised university or higher education institution
- ✓Applicants must demonstrate financial self-sufficiency of at least €11,904 per year (€992/month in 2026) — via a blocked account, scholarship, or declaration of commitment
- ✓Language requirements depend on the programme: German-taught programmes require German at B2; English-taught programmes require English at B2 or equivalent
